Entries are invited for this new competition, inspired by Dr M__ P_ of N J_____.

Aim: to create a new book jacket for a classic novel. A classic novel is defined as one whose title is familiar to lettered people. “Lettered people” are those who recognise the titles of classic novels.

Prize(s): the warm glow of achievement & perhaps a bauble or trinket.

Method: combine an inappropriate image with a paronomasiac title. (Thank you Dr Gillard for this succinct wording.)

Format: any standard graphic file type (jpg, gif etc) Maximum width 520px. Attach file to email.

Time for another Wordability Competition which we’ll kick off with this unsolicited contribution from Dr M______ P_______ of N__ J_____.

Entries may be sent to competition at wordability.com.au. The judges have so far announced no time limit, no criteria and no details of prizes (if any).

Dr Gillard, not content with his Belloc quotation, has come up with this quatrain (see his comments on our previous post).

Writing verse using words of two letters
Is a thing that?s not done by my betters.
But I must here have something to show -
So it is up to me to do so.

Nine two letter words! The Wordability judges deliberated long past their bedtimes: was this an actual English poem? Some said no, others didn’t hear the question. But the oldest judge pointed out that it was (a) unquestionably a poem (b) in English, even if (c) line 3 resembled something he once saw on a Serbo-Croatian desk calendar.

We do not expect to see a better entry or a wittier last line. If Dr Gillard would forward us a stamped addressed envelope his prize will be on the way.
